David Sackmann has written music for choral groups, chamber ensembles, percussion ensembles, and wind ensemble, as well as collaborative work with dance groups and other artists. A graduate of Gonzaga University, David is currently pursuing a M.M. in music composition at the University of Oregon. His composition teachers have included David Crumb, Robert Kyr, and Kevin Waters. His works have been performed by Esteli Gomez, the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, the Gonzaga University Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble, the American Creators Chorus, as well as various chamber groups and radio broadcast. Along with composing, David has also performed as a percussionist with various orchestral groups and bands and has conducted the premiers of a number of his works. David has twice participated in the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium. Originally from Endicott, WA, David is currently based out of Eugene, OR though he generally finds himself working all around the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
Along with his work as a composer, David is the acting director of The TaiHei Ensemble, (pronounced “tie-hey”) a new music ensemble based in Eugene, Oregon looking to facilitate, explore, and enhance dialogue between cultures through the creation and performance of world music. David has also served as an assistant director for the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble.
